The backlog of work at US shipyards is growing and the availability of resources (designers & engineers) has not kept up with the demand. This has led to most yards outsourcing all or portions of the detail design work to off-site firms. However, most shipyards still want to utilize their existing software, personnel, and expertise, causing conflicts in model space, copies, and versions. This presentation details the configuration and operational challenges of using ShipConstructor between main office and remote locations using OneDrive, VPN and SQL server. The purpose of VPN configuration is to facilitate secure SQL query transmission, and OneDrive is for transmission of ShipConstructor Project files. We will also discuss the pros and cons of working in this setup.
